Machu Picchu by Helicopter

 

A helicopter service from Cusco to Aguas Calientes is now available for those who like to pay extra money to get maximum comfort. This service was provided by a 12 passenger helicopter by Heli- Cusco.

 

Yes, you can reach Machu Picchu by flying. If you are in Lima then take the plane from Lima to Cusco, Fly time is only around one hour. There are four airways companies available in this route.

  • Flying between Lima and Cusco

Fights from Lima to Cusco are available since early morning, last flights leave at around 3 pm. Lanperu, TACA, Aero Condor and Star Peru these are the four airlines all of which have multiple flights from Lima to Cusco. Many people arrange their international flights such a way that they can reach Lima early in the morning and then take a flight from Lima to Cusco in the same morning, hence saving time.   • Flying between Cusco and Machu Picchu

 

There is a helicopter available, Heli-Cusco, which will take you from Cusco to Machu Picchu. It operates 6 days a week, Check my page on helicopter from Cusco to Machu Picchu. But as of June 2010, this helicopter service is just banned by the government . Peru government officials say noise of rotors affects habitat for the spectacled bear and red-plumed Andean cock of the rock. It has been banned from 21st June 2010. Now No helicopters will be permitted to use airspace at the site or the surrounding 125 square miles. But in recent past Peru government banned few times helicopter service and then lifted the ban. Other than Heli-Cusco there is no other way to fly from Cusco. So you have to take train from Cusco to Machu Picchu. For more read my page on getting to Machu Picchu.
