Staying Peru is not expensive. You may get good food and comfortable hotels at a very cheap rate here. With $ 25.00 a day you can easily pass your days in Peru. Taxi is cheap here and taxi drivers do not expect tips. But you have to know the fair beforehand, otherwise they may take as much as they can (not always though).
Machu Picchu
Certainly Machu Picchu is the most popular spot to visit. Machu Picchu had been selected as one of the seven wonders of the world on 2007. Machu Picchu is actually an Inca ruin at the top of mountain Machu Picchu. You can visit this place throughout the year. You can reach this place from Cusco by train. Distance between them is 112 km and it takes around 3.50 hours. There is no direct road service between Cusco and Machu Picchu. You may reach Machu Picchu from Cusco using a combination of bus and train.
Cusco
Cusco was the capital of Inca empire. The city is very colorful and there are really a good number of tourist attractions here. You will find beautiful churches here of old times. If you want to feel the warmth of Inca, Cusco is the right place to visit.
Inca trail
Inca trail is the most popular trail in South America. It is a 46 km trail and takes around three and a half day to reach Machu Picchu from Cusco. There are other versions of this trail, like you can choose 2 days trail or other trails like Salkantay trail. Recent years Inca trail has become very popular. Perhaps too popular... Government has to implement a new rule, which limits the number of people to enter the trail each day to 500, in an attempt to save the trail from getting overcrowded. Right now to get a space you have to make booking 2/3 months earlier specially in high seasons.
Puno
Puno is the second largest city of Peru. It is nice city, but biggest attraction of Puno is Lake Titicaca. You can also visit the Church of San Pedro, the Sistine Chapel of the Americas and La Raya Ranch in Puno.
Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca is the lake at highest altitude in world. It is a very popular destination for the visitors. There are some islands in Lake Titicaca, where usually visitors stay nights and enjoy the beauty of the lake. The popular destinations inside the lake are floating Uros Islands, Isla del Sol, Isla Amantani, Isla Taquile.
Arequipa
Arequipa in one of the beautiful city of Peru. But people visit Arequipa mainly to climb volcano El Misti, mountain Chachani and Colca canyon. Colca canyon is one of the deepest canyon in world.
Nazca
Nazca city is a popular place to the visitors. People visit this place to see the lines and figures drawn by the ancient Nazca people in desert. People rent flights (not expensive) to see the the figures of monkey, lizard, hummingbirds from sky. How these giant figures were drawn are still a mystery. Some people like Maria Reiche spent there whole life researching on Nazca lines.
